A great way to see how your search engine optimization efforts are going is by integrating Google Analytics in your website. Google Analytics has a ton of tools to assist you with monitoring important information about your website.

Some useful tools include:

  • Traffic Sources -
    • Direct Traffic - This useful tool monitors direct traffic to your website, you can see how many people typed your website url in their browsers instead of finding your through searches. This could be useful if your passing business cards around or advertising by other means and want to know how those efforts are working out.
    • Referring Websites - If you want to know who is sending traffic your way, this will show you. Maybe you have been exchanging links or posting to forums to get your name out there. You can see how many visits came from those websites.
    • Search Engines - See how many visitors are coming from various search engines.
    • All Traffic Sources - This just shows all of those sources listed below in one convenient location.
    • Adwords - You can tie your adwords campaign in with your Google Analytics account.
    • Keywords - See what keywords people are coming to your website for. This will give you a clue if you need to update your website content to do better in the search engines.
    • Content - Find out what pages your visitors are going to.
  • Visitors -
    • Overview - Shows all the visitors to your website, search engines used, and other stats.
